Another High quality British Drama. Gosford Park is a great early Julian Fellowes movie in pre Downton Abbey times. What a shame. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! A top script, an A1 ensemble cast includes Maggie Smith as a Dowager Aristocrat , for a change. So if you enjoyed that program, I would think you will enjoy this. Anything starring Maggie Smith gets my vote, and I've always loved films portraying this era. Gosford Park is a great early Julian Fellowes movie in pre Downton Abbey times. There were no sub-titles. Consequently I fell asleep. Brilliant plot. this one just didn't capture my interest at all... sorry to say so and possibly others enjoyed it and will rate it better With a New and Magnificent High Definition transfer. This should be a five star rating for a great film and a great DVD edition, but the absence of subtitles is quite inexcusable for a dialogue based film like this which is targeted at a mature audience and will appeal to elderly viewers. You can see many elements of the characters which have been taken forward to the TV series, however in Gosford Park you really have to pay attention to nuances, dialogue and visual clues - whereas Downton Abbey tends to slap the viewer (quite agreeably) around the face with what's happening (and what has been happening). Well done everybody concerned with the production of this masterpiece. The story was dull, the sets and settings were dull, the cast was dull (except Maggie Smith, hence the two stars).
